Characters Name: Neophyte Redglare
Age: Unknown. Given her blood color--which would give her a potentially longer lifespan--doubled with the fact that she was supposedly still new at her job and perhaps consequently somewhat young, she may be only a couple centuries old. Most likely by human standards she'd be in her mid-to-late twenties.
Canon Point: Post-Death
Species: Troll
Gender: Female
Orientation: Trolls are pansexual by nature. Though Redglare herself isn't shown in any relationships in canon, those who have leanings towards one gender or the other are generally the minority.
History: MSPA WIKI: Neophyte Redglare. Though she's generally tied in with Mindfang as most of the history we know of her comes from the accounts in Mindfang's journal, and a bit from Terezi's FLARPing sessions.
Appearance: Canon Reveal Drawing, Sexy Fan Art
Personality: Though the clouded lenses of Mindfang's own long-winded recollections of her life and Terezi's own idolization of her ancestor, we catch glimpses as to what really lies in Redglare's character. Let us first take a look at the title she has been given, which is exceptionally important as we are never made privy to what her full name actually is. Neophyte is a noun that means you're a novice or a beginner at some sort of practice, originally hailing from the early Christian Church as someone who has just been baptized. In that sense, Redglare is automatically set up to be someone who is new at her job and most likely not very good at it. However, Mindfang contradicts this with the simple statement:
Neophyte Redglare is reported to 8e quite talented. I find no reason to dou8t this.
So, despite the fact that she is "green", as it were, Redglare already has a reputation for herself, and one that is flattering at that. That alone says something about perhaps not only her natural talents, but her drive to do her job, as well. To be in the position of a legislacerator at all takes not only skill and practice, but reserve and an inability to give up. Terezi herself describes what is considered typical of a legislacerator as she herself aspires to be one some day, too.

Practical, professional, and business-like. Those are the standards set as what is expected of someone in her position, and from the first time we see Redglare, that is exactly what she embodies. In her first appearance, she is standing straight, shoulders back, feet spaced equally apart, all physical displays of confidence. Yet, unlike the Mindfang picture, we see no flashing of white teeth, which suggests she is being close-lipped, perhaps even with her mouth in a straight line in tandem with the rest of her body. It is not a stance that suggests a more laxidasical way of approaching things, but right off the bat she is shown to be a no-nonsense and business-oriented sort of person.

Redglare further becomes a prime example of just what a legislacerator should be. She is rentless in her pursuit of Mindfang, and as Mindfang notes in her journal, also have complied large amounts of evidence out of favor with the pirate as well. Redglare does not only continue to push forward even when the odds seem to be against her, she does not leave a job half-done either. Much like Terezi tends to push off her convictions of Vriska, Redglare needs everything to be just as it should. Her eventual siege on Mindfang's fleet shows just how brutal she can and will be when the occasion calls for it.

8ut I discovered too l8 that Redglare was their wild card all along.
Mindfang underestimated her, but Redglare still managed to not only completely take down her fleet, but unarm her as well. Quite literally. It just shows how brutal Redglare can be when the occasion calls for it, and it wasn't even necessarily that: having Mindfang in chains--as she had already claimed victory for herself at this point in the fight--would have been acceptable to bring Mindfang before the court. But Redglare still saw fit to cut off Mindfang's arm, as her own small show of bravado. Despite the fact that she embodies the law and acts in the name of justice, her imperfections show. It is, perhaps, a small bit of her own personal vendetta against Mindfang for thinking nothing off her (or often noted in fandom, as snuffing her attempts to capture her, as we only get to see their interactions once Redglare finally succeeds), or simply a way for her to prove herself to her superiors that title of "Neophyte" no longer suits her.
It should be important to note, however, while she is inevitably wrapped up with justice, it is not simply the ideals that she follows. She fully enacts the Libra symbol in that she is also all about balance. Redglare is shown to wear the symbol of the Signless around her neck. Though we do not get to see her act in favor of the rebellion of the Signless (as he was probably before her time, or at this point in canon, long dead) we can see through that simple panel that she supports his ideas: equality amongst those of different blood colors. Given her role in government, that may also have sprung her desire to be involved with law in the first place. She may not be explicitly practicing those ideals for the sake of her own safety publicly, but it is possible she was involved in underground movements, as her job would make her a useful ally in that sense.
Had my escape not necessit8ed her demise, she would have made a lovely rival. If she'd only discarded her childish preoccup8tion with justice, we might have made a striking scourge. Had we inched 8lacker we'd have torn red miles across the land and sea. Unfortun8ly, the only miles to 8e found through her 8ureaucratic calling were those of red tape. When so ensnared, one is eventually 8ound to 8e choked.
The relationship between Redglare and Mindfang could easily become a dead-ringer for a kismesisattitude. However, we never once nor hear any other mentions of Redglare in relation to any sort of romantic advances. She may have had them, or they were simply--as I like to believe--not important to her but for mere survival. She is, as Mindfang put, preoccupied with justice and becomes so wrapped up in what she believes are the most important aspects of her existence, that she overlooks the possibility of her eventual failure in lieu of her victory, which leads to her death.
As recent updates have hinted at, the post-scratch ancestors are, perhaps, the realization of the ideals and dreams of their pre-scratch selves. If pre-scratch Redglare aspired to be a legislacterator and solider of justice, Neophyte Redglare has become the epitome of what has been asked of her. She is hard-nosed and business-oriented, no-nonsense with the skills to back up her reputation. She is, however, almost too obsessed with her role, losing herself in it and perhaps isolating herself from the emotions of other trolls, or even to the point of possibly overlooking her own. That is not to say that they do not play a role in her actions, but simply she does not acknowledge that they can, and it is her own ego and lack of foresight which eventually end her.
Abilites: The only real special ability Redglare has is, presumably, similar to what Terezi can do. She is blind, yet she can function almost as if she is not. With the help of her dragon lusus (which, on Alternia, are all born blind as well), she has learned how to taste and smell her surroundings in lieu of sight.
Other: Since she will miss having her giant dragon lusus around, I would love it for some point for her to acquire an Iguana as a replacement. Just a random thought.

First Person: Correspondence with Mindfang @ Confession Meme
Third Person: The tip of her pen sat pressed against the paper, leaving a growing ink stain of teal. Paperwork was a drudgery that came along with the position she had coveted for so long, so she endured it. Her recent promotion had been nothing short of a dream achieved, but even that came with complications. She was young and inexperienced, they said, but her test scores and notoriety for success had already preceded her. To be in favor with the Subjuggulators was an asset as well, and she was hoping to get her first assignment soon.
Nothing.
Instead, she enjoyed the four walls of her office and the piles of paperwork she was completing on cases she had very little business in at all. There had been little time for celebration of her own achievements, and with so much still to achieve, being treated as nothing but a secretary had already become a headache. Redglare sighed, rubbing her temples as she set her pen to the side. This case in particular was a run-of-the-mill example of "do not speak unless spoken to" when regarding higher bloods. It left a sour taste in her mouth, but her lips remained tightly shut. Acting out brazenly would no sooner help move civil rights forward as it would put her in the good favor she had been given.
That's what it had seemed, except the paper work. Perhaps it was time for a break. She pushed her chair back from the desk, relaxing ever so slightly. Pursing her lips, she considered her options; there were a few opportunities for a sort of extra-credit, perhaps pushing her own agenda forward and giving her the peace of mind that she was doing more than pushing paper.
The door to her office opened. Redglare's back immediately straightened, hands gripping the arm rests of her chair. Though she could not see her visitor, the sound of her door in combination with the scent of his blue blood was enough to tell her who had just entered.
"The Grand Highblood wishes to see you."
Her blood pusher stopped in her chest, the tips of her fingers going cold. Not many would speak with him directly and live to tell the tale. But she was on his side, was she not? Perhaps this was the opportunity she had been hoping for. Her composure ever faltered on the outside, despite her surprise.
"Very well." She carefully stepped away from her desk, grabbing the head of her cane as she moved towards the door in one fluid motion. "Let's not keep him waiting."
